Beauty out of Tragedy
Dec 19 2012 - 08:12:00 am
Our hearts and prayers go out to all those affected by the tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary in Newtown, Connecticut this past week. All those affected will be in our hearts and prayers in the coming weeks.

Art is a fantastic thing, as it can turn pain, tragedy, and heartbreak into something beautiful and moving. Check out this article for an inspirational story about Pedro Reyes, who transforms destroyed weapons into beautiful works of art.

We are inspired and uplifted by the courage of the Sandy Hook survivors, and their families. God Bless Newtown and our wonderful, courageous country.
Why Classroom Websites?
Dec 12 2012 - 09:16:00 am
If there is one overarching theme in the key to a successful education, it has been proven time and time again that attention and investment are essential. We have all heard countless stories of “that one teacher who made all the difference” – simply because they took a special interest in a student. Oftentimes that’s as simple as pointing out an aptitude for a certain skill, or by encouraging the pursuit of a distant dream. With the right formula, it doesn’t take much to transform a disengaged student into an excited pursuer of knowledge. It’s about engaging the learner within.

The technology paradox
Technology presents a unique situation. While it allows us all to exist isolated in our own worlds if we so desire, it also allow us to connect in ways that were previously unattainable. We’re able to stay in contact with far more people with very little effort, and we can connect with those all over the planet who share our interests, beliefs, and attitudes. The classroom has become a living unit without walls, enriched and expanded by the capabilities of modern software and devices.

Strategic use
If teachers are strategic, they can maximize and multiply their educational efforts by way of technology. Utilizing the devices and methods students are already fascinated by is a foot in the door to engagement --and therefore-- learning. If teachers can engage both parents and students, learning is unstoppable.

These days, technology in the classroom should be a requirement – it is too beneficial an opportunity to pass up. Uses range the spectrum from minimal to full-fledged, and tools can be anything from iPads and other tablets to desktop computers, innovative software, and online resources.

Connecting to the classroom
Parents’ have busy schedules and fewer and fewer ever even get to see their children’s classrooms. By opening up the lines of communication, parents and teachers can stay on the same page and ensure that the student is receiving the attention he needs and deserves.

Students deserve the full support of their schools and their parents, and one way to meld the two worlds is classroom websites. Students can download homework assignments, take online quizzes, and explore resources that teachers make available. Parents can stay fully involved by viewing classroom photo galleries, events calendars, and monitoring classroom news.

In this day in age, making the connection is easier and harder. Technology can be used in incredibly unique and important ways, but the goal should always be to enhance and strengthen the lines of communication. Contact us today about how we can help you take learning beyond the walls of the classroom.
